On the 7th April 2020, the Rwandan community in China joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 26th Anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
The commemoration event which brought together more than 550 Rwandans living in China, was conducted online due the global coronavirus outbreak, which has made it impossible for gatherings as done in the past.
In his speech, Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, H.E. James Kimonyo urged the Rwandan community in China to uphold the values of patriotism and selflessness of the men and women of Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) who under the leadership of President Paul Kagame fought the then government forces and militias and single-handedly stopped the genocide.The Ambassador called on the participants to promote unity and fight the genocide ideology and denial. He also appealed to the international community to work with Rwanda in bringing to justice the genocide perpetrators who are still at large.
The commemoration event also included a testimony by Mr. Ntezimana Jean Nepomuscene, a genocide survivor currently studying in China, who shared the story of his life before, during and after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Ntezimana, who is on the path to become an Internal Medicine Doctor, ended his testimony thanking the Rwanda Patriotic Army for saving him and the Government of Rwanda for supporting the genocide survivors, giving them hope for the future.
Public Diplomacy & Poly International Children's Choir (hereinafter referred to as "Choir") is a youth and children training project of the event "Small Citizens Promote Great Diplomacy" launched by the Public Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange Center, which has received positive response and support from embassies of various countries in China. Senior Chinese diplomats are invited to teach children diplomatic etiquette and culture; famous university history experts are invited to teach global history. Poly Art Education cooperates with well-known artists at home and abroad and famous teachers from art schools to teach art knowledge, guide rehearsals and performances to provide choir members with the highest standard theater stage, thus building a bridge through music and culture for cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries for teenagers and children from all over the world.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Latin American Pacific Alliance, the rotating presidency of the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in China joined hands with the Embassy of the United Mexican States in China, the Embassy of the Republic of Peru in China, and the Embassy of the Republic of Chile in China. "Encuentro" Latin American Cultural Travel Restaurant held the opening ceremony of the first "Latin American Pacific Union Food Festival".
